বাংলা ব্রেইল সফটওয়্যারে নতুন অধ্যায়ের সূচনা - প্রথম আলো

দৃষ্টিপ্রতিবন্ধীরা সাধারণভাবে পড়তে পারে না। তাদের পড়ার সুবিধার জন্য সারা বিশ্বের জনপ্রিয় একটি পদ্ধতি হলো ব্রেইল পদ্ধতি। বাংলাদেশেও এই পদ্ধতি সীমিত আকারে চালু রয়েছে। কিছুদিন আগেও বাংলা লেখাকে ব্রেইলের উপযোগী করতে এটিকে হাতে তৈরি করাই ছিল একমাত্র পদ্ধতি। কিন্তু সম্প্রতি বাংলা লেখাকে ব্রেইলে রূপান্তর করার একটি সফটওয়্যার তৈরি হয়েছে। এই সফটওয়্যার সম্পর্কে ধারণা দেওয়ার জন্য গতকাল ঢাকার ড্যাফোডিল আন্তর্জাতিক বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের মিলনায়তনে একটি সেমিনারের আয়োজন করা হয়। ‘বাংলা থেকে ব্রেইল মেশিনে অনুবাদ : মানবাধিকারের অগ্রযাত্রায় আরও এক ধাপ’ শীর্ষক এই সেমিনারে মূল প্রবন্ধ উপস্থাপন করেন ড্যাফোডিল আন্তর্জাতিক বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের কম্পিউটার প্রকৌশল বিভাগের বিভাগীয় প্রধান সৈয়দ আকতার হোসেন। তিনি বলেন, বাংলা লেখাকে ব্রেইলে রূপান্তর করার জন্য এত দিন হাতেই এর বই তৈরি হতো। এটি যথেষ্ট সময়সাপেক্ষ ও কষ্টসাধ্য ব্যাপার। এ জন্যই বাংলা ব্রেইল বইয়ের সংখ্যাও কম ছিল। কিন্তু বাংলা লেখা থেকে ব্রেইলে রূপান্তরের এই সফটওয়্যারটি দিয়ে খুব অল্প সময়ে যেকোনো লেখাকে ব্রেইলে রূপান্তর করা সম্ভব। এই সফটওয়্যারের মাধ্যমে দৃষ্টিপ্রতিবন্ধীদের পড়ালেখার ক্ষেত্রে নতুন এক যুগের সূচনা হলো বলে মনে করেন তিনি।
সেমিনারে আরও জানানো হয়, যেকোনো প্রতিষ্ঠান বিনা মূল্যে এই সফটওয়্যার দিয়ে দৃষ্টিপ্রতিবন্ধীদের জন্য বাংলা বই ব্রেইলে রূপান্তর করে নিতে পারবে।
সেমিনারে জাতীয় প্রতিবন্ধী ফোরামের আহ্বায়ক নাজমা আরা বেগম, সেমিনারে বাংলাদেশ ইলেকট্রনিকস সোসাইটির সভাপতি লুৎফর রহমান, সাধারণ সম্পাদক ফজলুল হক, ড্যাফোডিল আন্তর্জাতিক বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের রেজিস্ট্রার ফখরে হোসেন, ব্লাইন্ড রিসার্চ ডেভেলপমেন্ট অর্গানাইজেশনের নির্বাহী পরিচালক সাইদুল হকসহ আরও অনেকে উপস্থিত ছিলেন। —মোছাব্বের হোসেন
